Retired couple overcharged

Recently an older couple i met said they paid almost €1000 for a job to power wash their small drive, bungalow and roof. The job took 2 men most of the day. They are completely shocked at how much they were charged and are already tight for money surviving on one state pension income. They are decent honest people felt compelled to pay and hugely regret not agreeing a price beforehand.
I feel they were taken advantage of as I rang 2 other power washers who quoted between €350-400.
    Is there any comeback ?

Were these men from a reputable firm or one of the scamming outfits that are relieving elderly folk of many times the value of the work they do?

Did they pay a reputable company with a registered address?

Sounds to me like it was a door to door scam. They're way too common, report to Gardai but they're probably long gone.

Did they use word 'boss' frequently?

I need to ask the couple but i got the impression that they knew the main guy from a local company who did the same job a decade ago for a third the price.

you should keep a very close eye on this ,

certain members of a minority community in Ireland will return repeatedly to a house for more money if they get paid there once ,

these poor people could get cleaned out again and again unless these parasites are run straight away ,

talk to your local gardai they just love to warn such crooks off

Did you get any receipts for the work or was it €1k cash in hand?

I would be more concerned if the elderly couple had that kind of cash laying around in the first place. Easy targets now that these "business men" know where they are and what they can get.
