My wife was let go from her job a couple days ago. And I was wondering will she be able to claim JSA. (full prsi contributions) I earn €550 (after tax) a week and I presume she wont get much. Is it even worth her while to go down to the Social welfare office to register?

Yup, she may be entitled to benefit (non-means tested) and even if only eligible for JA (and fails the means on that) she can claim for credits. Difference between a contrib and a non-contrib pension. That may mean nothing now but it will down the line.
So do go down the office.
