Hi all, my wife had been a named driver on my car for the last couple of years instead of us having two cars like we used to always have.

So yesterday we got her a new car and she then contacted Aviva to get insurance, who shocked her by saying as she has now lost her no claims bonus that they would now not even quote her.
Please someone help us with this?

I'm with AXA myself for years without a problem so I'm just praying AXA do something realistic tomorrow when I can contact them!

Talk to brokers to find a insurer who will consider your wife's Named driver experience as NCB.

I recently switched to two car scenario and firstireland gave my wife a pretty good quote based on 6 years named driver experience she has.

I didn't think you got an ncb for being a named driver?

Ring MunsterGroup in ennis co.clare they are a broker a lot of people i know find them the cheapest.
My wife was on my car for nearly 10 years, no issues with being a named driver.

Usually NCB lapses after about 18-24 months.

Son, renewing insurance and said he had 4 years no claim. 2 years on his own and 2 years driving my car previous to that. No problem.
This was with Its4women. He says he will take their quote as it was the cheapest but he refuses to undergo the operation.

No you cannot get a ncb for being a named driver, that's my problem.

Thanks to all for the messages.

Thanks to all for the messages.

Was in a very similar situation myself this year getting a quote for my wife whose 15 plus years NCB was disregarded because 2 years had lapsed. (Nonsense if you ask me).
Anyways, the insurer said that they would give my wife a "named driver discount" based on her years of being a named driver, which with all the pluses and minuses came in around the same as the policy in my name.
Best thing is to get on the phone and start phoning around the different insurers and brokers.

Bit late now but married people with just 1 car should swap the main policy holder annually so both can maintain their NCD. If married you have a material interest in your spouse's vehicle so no need to swap name on the VLC.

    Try online quote with liberty

They give you an option to pick how long you have drove as a named driver without claiming

So it asks if you have no claim and your wife will say no , next question is how many years no claims do you have as a named driver

Might be worth a shot .
.you will just need to get a letter from your own insurance company that says the wife never had a claim on your policy

Aviva, FBD and Zurich count named driver experience.
    Try Aviva>Zurich>FBD

It was Aviva that told her they could not even quote her!

Very odd, try online. They quoted me a year ago in same scenario.
FBD definitely do but they are more expensive than most now.

Try AA insurance they will accept the named driver experience as NCB..

Few years ago I had a similar issue with the AA but they were my insurer and the wife was named.

They checked my wife was indeed named and they gave a big discount for it.

    Ring them.

Most if not all insurers will use named driving experience as an actual bonus.

If she had a car in her own name and has been named on your own since her own policy lapsed there should be no issue with getting quotes once everything else is in order. Just ring Axa and request a letter of named driving experience for her then ring her last insurer and request a copy of her last NCB.

Yet insurance companies have used accidents a person had 7 or 8 years ago to penalise drivers.

What companies would this be? Most would only ask for accidents in the last 5 years.

    Hogwash.

The only way an accident more than 5 years ago would be a factor is if the claim was still open.

His point is:rolleyes: that anything positive from the insured's point of view is recorded for two years but anything negative is for a much longer period.

I had an accident over 10 years ago and its still mentioned at renewal every year on the ncd sheet, I am still given my full ncd though.
The only reason I can think of for the insurance company to mention it is to scare the unwary from shopping around.

Have you changed companies or have you been with the same company for ten years ?

    Same company.

That's more than likely why it shoes a claim that old, the ncb would show any claims relating to that policy, if you switched insurers it would be gone when they sent you out a new bonus the following year.

I got this when I started driving a few year ago. FBD recognised two years as a named driver (incident free) as a 2 year NCB.

From what I remember, AXA didn't, even through I was a named driver on an AXA policy.

FBD have really changed their risk profile since then, so not sure how competitive their quotes will be,.
