I'm in the process of buying a pair of cycling shoes and was wondering if there's any/much difference between men's and women's shoes? I'm in the process of trying to buy a pair of road shoes and finding it hard to find a pair of women's shoes in my size that don't cost a fortune.

Presume the only difference is in the size and colour options available. Not sure what else there could be really.

You will find a lot of cycling shoes are quite narrow (which may, or indeed may not, suit you), but some brands offer wider options (the Sidi Mega range for example). However as DG has already said the difference between mens and womens is more down to appearance and size options. A decent bike shop will have a range to try on.

are cycling shoes like normal shoes in that mens would be wider? my wife has the same size feet as me, but most of my (normal) shoes would be too wide for her.

I find on Sidi normal I need to go up at least one size because they are so narrow. I can actually go down 1 and a half sizes from my normal shoes if I can get them a custom width, so I find normal width cycling shoes narrower than "normal shoes"

I'm a size 5 and usually go for the men's option as the women's colour options tend to be white/pink. Haven't found any difference myself other than smaller sizes in the women's ranges.

I had a pair of women's shoes ( think they were Gaerne) For the life of me I never figured out a difference. I bought them because they were a fantastic bargain at the time. These were silver and did not look particularly girly. Anyway, they functioned perfectly and I sold them to a lad only because I changed to spd.

Thanks all for taking the time to reply and for the helpful info. I'm struggling to find shoes to fit me that aren't a)very expensive and 2)aren't pink, so I was looking at the men's shoes to see if there was something suitable. I just wanted to check that there was no difference between the shoes!
