Is €16k a bit much for a 5 year old skoda with 70k miles?

I know its a higher than normal spec, but inwouldve thought such a case is closer to the €10k mark maybe?

I think it's way too expensive, typically you need to go with guide price of 50% every 3 years which at a new base price of €33495 something like €13k asking would be plenty.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,006 ✭✭✭bmwguy

Yeah nice car, but just too expensive. Rough guide as someone said earlier a 3 year old car should be hovering around the 50% Mark for actual selling price. So at 3 years old it would be approx 17k.

In another 3 years a 6 year old would lose half the 17k, making it approx 8.5 - 10k. Yours is 5 years old, a bit newer so maybe 11-13k. Sorry!

I would hide your reg number in the photo

Hiding reg's is not a good practice, it raises alarm bells and I move on to the next.

    Why?

Its clearly a vRS, which with respect OP, are a dime a dozen in Ireland. If it was something super rare and debadged, I'd say maybe. But a hidden plate is a turn off for me, I want to run the car via MotorCheck before I view as its quite common for someone to think they have something special and it turns out to be the bog standard version or has a few badges from Halfords thrown on. Saved a wasted trip plenty of times for me :pac:

As regards the Ad, awesome car, great photos but the price point is too high I feel. Perhaps post on some of the specialist forums for German marques in Ireland?

The only way to truly value any car to sell is to know the current market value.

A quick look on Dungdeal, has only x6 2011 VRS's for sale.

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars/Skoda/Octavia?year_from=2011&year_to=2011&fuelType=Diesel&engine_from=1.9&words=vrs

Looking at the "competition" and also comparing it to 2010 & 2012 cars, its only worth about €13k

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 167 ✭✭andrea1983

    16k for a skoda? 2011?

    Yer away mate!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,288 ✭✭✭millington

It's simply too expensive, even with the relatively low miles. A quick scan of the sites brings up a few '11 VRS for 13-14k. Plenty of dealers asking more but in a private sale, you can only go by the lowest valued private cars if you want to actually sell it.

How long is the advert up?

I don't think it's too far off the money tbh for a clean one, maybe 1000 or so. Dealers tend I have them up for c.€17k, maybe a straight sale for 16k ish. You need to be usefully cheaper than 16k to make it worthwhile for someone taking the risk on a private sale. There's a lot of shagged ones about but a good one can fetch decent money.

Photos of a service history and receipts are always worthwhile if you have them. If it's a main dealer one mention it.

The adverts a day old, give it a little while.

Would it be worth the OP's while advertising on somewhere like briskoda or autostadt?

Silver. The hardest colour to sell in any sort of performance car.:confused::confused:

I would have thought blue was the easiest color to sell. All the OPC's / VXRs come in a blue. Same with the Renault Sport, its a popular color.

well would rather pay 15k for a silver or a blue skoda, that is the question

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

That blue colour was unique to the vRS back then.

I wouldn't buy a silver Skoda unless it was half the price of another colour. If I was buying a VRS, then blue would be high up the list.

Every time a thread like this comes up this idiotic suggestion is brought up and the idiot person that posted it can never give any kind of explanation or reason as to why reg plates should be hidden. Saw this ad today and just can't get my head around how stupid some people can be.

    Too expensive.

I paid €17,250 nearly 3 years ago for my 2010 vRS with 69,000km.

if I was a ne'er-do-well, and in the business of cloning cars (avoiding ANPR checks / m50 tolls etc), being able to find reg numbers for cars from the comfort of my evil lair would be pretty handy

There was a better example then this going around recently, another BMW too. On front plate only the first half of the reg was covered and the back plate only the second half of the reg was covered. It was like a puzzle trying to piece the two together :pac:

Coming back to the OP's car; Too expensive IMO for a warm diesel hatch.

Also, whenever I see a covered up reg plate for a car ad, I immediately close it. I hate it.
