    Hi,

Hope this is where i can find some info. Ive been doing the usual googling for info but only coming up with generic info related to homes and pubs.

Let me outline what our idea is:

We have a premises, we want to start a private members club centered around music, we will not be serving alcohol ever and we want to run events into the wee hours of the morning.

So basically Im looking to find a place online where i can get more info about running a club like this. All the usual citizen information sites relate to either a house and the noise issues around that or a licenced premises. We will be neither.

    Any help would be great.

contact a solicitor or your local council.

noise levels are dependant on the area ie: town versus residential.

The paddy wagons will be out in force, plenty of these private events in Dublin for as long as I can remember. Very hard to control unless you have small select numbers, words gets round a club and you could have a couple of hundred people on your door very quick.
If it was legal they'd be all over the country.

Have a look at section 51 of Public Health Acts Amendment Act, 1890, http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/1890/act/59/enacted/en/print

Calling something a private club may not remove any issues in relation to the above.

If your venue is to host music shows then you will need to go to the local district court to apply for a Music and Singing Licence and a Public Dance Licence. These licences have nothing to do with the sale of alcohol or food and allow you to legally have live concerts and public dances, even when it takes the form of people dancing along to music in your venue, private or public.

You will be required to satisfy the local fire officer than your premises is up to standard and safe etc etc should you wish to apply for either licence and your local garda station must also be notified. You could do worse than to contact the PPI and IRMO for advice relation to the web that relates to performance royalties and permissions for playing or replaying music or AV equipment, live or recorded.

Lastly, you need to be aware that setting up a members club to obtain a licence at court level at any will be legally complex. You need to consult a solicitor should you wish to take this further.

You have got good advice here, especially from Losty. Thanks to all who posted,

Also suggest you talk to your neighbours there, if only to employ some of them as stewards.

Will leave this open overnight in case of any other suggestions but propose closing it tomorrow

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I have more than enough here to get busy with so you can go ahead and close the thread if you want.
