Insignia climate control fuse faulty?

Hi there, I seem to have an intermittent problem where the climate control unit completely shuts down. Opel insignia 2009. It seems to happen in either really warm weather or really cold. Sometimes happens if the car is in the sun, or getting icy outside basically. Most times it just comes back on after a bit of driving but seems to be getting worse

Brought into garage and they tested fuses, no issues found but guessing this was because the unit was OK at the time. It's getting a bit annoying now so just wondering if anyone knows how to fix or what fuses to check. Thanks in advance

    IMG of unit is below

Did you get a diagnosis scan done? You should be able to do it at any decent garage. Even if it is the manual AC type it will still be computer controlled.

Thanks for the quick reply. You mean where they hook it up to the computer? Yep I seen them doing it once (was in Spanish so couldn't make out really what faults were coming up) second time I left it in for a service they said they ran it through again but couldn't find fault... This I didn't see though.

Also got 'service ESP' but will leave that for another thread maybe

I've been going to them for a few years previously with old Peugeot and they were always sound so just took their word for it

Have you checked your battery? A weak battery might cause ESP errors as well.
Is it shutting down while driving, or not starting when you start the engine?
In any case i know that there might be software updates that are fixing some climate control issues, maybe bring it to a dealer garage.

It won't be a fuse anyway as they need replacing after they blow, they do not reset themselves.

Could be a thermal trip inside the unit that shutting it down intermittently due to a unit fault.
Don't know anything about a software update correcting your issue, it could be the case though..

In my opinion, the two problems could be cause by a weak battery. The heater / air con fan can draw a lot of power and the car my be designed to cut them off if the battery voltage goes too low. In hot or cold weather is when the fan is usually on, and the temperature can also have a big effect on the battery.

The ESP is also extremely sensitive to a weaker battery (although they are designed to be as robust as possible) because there may not be enough power to fire the ABS motor and/or valves to correctly control the braking pressure to each wheel.

Most cars will store a fault code if the battery is low, so should be a quick check for a main dealer to do.

Hi Paradisepaddy, did you ever get to the end of this problem? I've an 09 insignia with the very same problem! Only stops working on a hot day when you need it most!!!

Hey man, sorry no never did. I know it's not the battery as I only got it replaced during winter. One of my mates said it could be a fault in the back of the unit as he had similar problem in BM. Not expensive he mentioned.

I'm overdue an nct at this point and keep meaning to bring into official service but there's a few other things that I'm fearing might cost a bit like auto forward lighting on left hand side. Will let you know what they say unless you find out before me ;)
