I have just bought a house that was built six years ago - but never finished or lived in.
There a lot of standard double and single sockets which you would expect but there is also a number of "round three pin plug sockets" which have live and Earth supply but no neutral.
The sockets are really new brushed alloy effect - they are in the living room - I m clueless what they are for - anyone anyone any idea - I have about six !!!

Could they be connected to light switches and used for lamps etc?

Not thought of that - I will check tomorrow - they are all low level - so it maybe a good call - thank you

Yeah, they'd be for lamps and stuff so you can switch them on and off at the wall.

Note, I've seen online people asking whether they can rewire appliances (or the socket itself) to use these sockets. So they can switch, e.g. the TV off using the switch on the wall.

These sockets are connected to the lighting circuit not the ring main, so basically, no.

They have a neutral or else they're wired wrong. As above they're for stand alone lights and cannot/should not be changed for standard 13a sockets. They are on a lighting circuit and won't have an RCD or RCBO fitted for protection.

The reason they have round pin holes is to stop a standard plug being inserted.

Typically they are limited to 5A so you can't use them for "normal" sockets... maybe you can draw wires through the ducting if you really wanted to and connect up to a 13A circuit with appropriate protection...

They can be really useful so that you can have a lamp and turn it off with a switch... ;)
