We installed a Palladio door last year and it's a superb product. I'd recommend one highly.

However, we have a glass section next with it (door and glass in one large frame) that's the same area as the door, which I'm very disappointed with.......

To explain, there's a triple glazed panel within the door itself that is the same thickness as triple glazed windows. However, the triple glazing in the glass beside the door is much narrower - no more than 24 mm (maybe less) I reckon, with thick glass and narrow spaces between them. I've read that narrow triple glazing like this can have a poorer u value than double glazed units of the same width.

So I have a door with a good u value but the advantage is given away by the narrow triple glazed glass panel beside it.

I can't understand why it's not standard triple glazed width. 😩

test the internal temp of both on a cold day using http://www.amazon.com/HDE-Non-Contact-Infrared-Temperature-Thermometer/dp/B002YE3FS4

1: ask for the spec on the side panel.

2: this is what is on one site for the door spec.

    U Value Rating Door body U Value – 0.205, Triple glaze U value – 1.1, combined U value – 0.64
Solid door U value including frame – 0.85/ Glazed door U value including frame – 0.98

3: depending on the size of the glazed side panel, there may well be safety regs that pertain, giving rise to the requirements of thicker glass, etc. Its beyond my pay grade.

    As a general comment,
    re
I've read that narrow triple glazing like this can have a poorer u value than double glazed units of the same width.

Without knowing the exact spec on the two, TG vs DG, makeups then this observation has no scientific foundation so go back to my point 1

the thinnest glass you can use in windows is 4mm and the smallest spacer bar is 6mm so your side pane is probably 4-6-4-6-4 - if it has a poor performance rating compared to your other windows maybe the glass spec and make up is not as good - standard glass and spacer bar. A-rated units would have higher spec glass, spacer bars and gas filled cavities. I would go back to the company that installed and ask for a copy of the glass breakdown for it. or get an independent local installer to check it. a professional will know straight away if it is right or not. you can always replace the glass for a better spec unit
