Hi Guys,

    Just Checking something.

I have a CAA PPL, my initial Medical was a Class 1 (2010), which then reverted to Class 2, which has now expired by approx 15 months. My licence is due to expire in August. My SEP has expired due to not having enough flying done.

I just want to confirm i can do a class 2 medical here, and send the cert and all associated paper work to the UK. And then have my EASA licence issued as it is no longer a CAA PPL. Is the form completed here called EM/PIC.

For now I just want to get the license reissued and then try and get flying at a later stage.

    Many Thanks

I think you would be better off directing your question to the IAA at the following email address licensing@iaa.ie

I'd say probably better to contact CAA than IAA if it's a CAA licence (unless you want to convert to IAA issued). On their site they have no listed CAA approved AMEs in the Republic.

Regarding the re-issue, I'm open to correction but fairly sure the EASA licence (now on one page) will be issued with the SEP as an expired rating, which will require another issue when you revalidate by test. It may be better to wait until you've done that to send the application off.

I wouldn't bother going near the IAA.

The CAA are in the process of overhauling the class 2 medical requirements. I think they are removing the requirement of going to an AME. It will just be a self declaration and signed form from GP. However not coming in until the end of the summer.

If you want to sort medical and get flying now just head up north and get sorted. PM me if you want details of AMEs.

I did ring the Aero Med section of IAA, but they didn't exactly seem to sure of themselves with the advice they were giving. They just said it should be OK but to make sure and send the Medical Paperwork to the UK.

The licence will be issued with an expired rating, but i think it's a lifetime licence as opposed to what i currently have which needs to be renewed every 5 years.

I don't rally have the time or money right now to keep flying, 3 kids, work and trying to build a new house. I just hope to keep the license and then when i can get back into it, without having to do all the exams and 45 hours and another flight test.

look up details for Dr Andrew Jordan, he's working in 2 clinics around Dublin, he might be able to help you. When I did my initial class 2 with him, he specifically asked do I need it for IAA or CAA.. he seemed to be able to do both.
