Multifocal/Progressive Contact Lenses

I have always been short sighted and worn glasses for distance since I was child. My near vision has always been - and still is - OK but in recent years I have struggled to read small print while wearing the glasses.

I started using progressive lenses in my glasses recently and I am very pleased with them. Not perfect for reading but I can handle menus in low light and looking at my phone without putting my glasses on top of my head and you wouldn't know that they are progressive to look at them.

I abandoned contact lenses a few years ago because of this problem so I was delighted to see that they come in multi-focal now as well.

I tried Dailies Aqua Comfort Plus Multifocal in accordance with my prescription and what a disappointment!

I mean they're fine in that they are comfortable to wear and give me perfect distance viewing but I couldn't discern anything 'multi' about them and I couldn't read a thing up close. It was even worse than with my glasses.

I have heard of people using some other approaches to this problem such as one lens for distance and one for up close. That sounds like a good way to give me a headache but I'm told it works....

I am wondering whether anyone else has had good or bad experiences with multi-focal or progressive contact lenses or could recommend any particular brand.

BTW my prescription is -3.75 and ADD +1.25

Johnson and Johnson one day Moist multifocals are relatively new on the market and from the approx 100 people I have fitted with them, I'd say 99 got on with them. Sometimes multifocal lenses need to be tinkered with a bit before settling on a final prescription but I've found J&J much better than the Ciba Daily Multifocals. Hope this helps

    Thanks for that.

I just ordered a box of 30 and I'll see how I get on.

I'm still puzzled why the Dailies didn't work for me.

Initially I was even wondering if I had been sent non-multis by mistake - but they are clearly marked '-3.75 LO MAX ADD +1.25'

    Sorry for butting in ...

Daisies, do you know if multifocals are available in Toric.
    I've an astigmatism. I'm R -5 -1.5 x115
    L -6.75 -1 x70
    Add +1.75

    Thanks

There is one monthly lens that is a multi focal toric but to be honest it is a pretty crap lens. I did have someone recently with a very similar prescription to yours and we tried a lens with out the toric element and her vision was surprisingly good. I'd go see an optometrist and see what level of vision you would get

    Thanks for the info.
What was the make of the lenses? I'm currently using east vision umere torics from Spec savers

As far as I remember they were Coopervision multifocal torics. They are an older material than the Umere torics and you would likely notice them getting dry towards the end of the day

Sorry if I've in the wrong place for this but the other day I got my first batch of contact lenses and I am thrilled with them. I am -3.25 in both eyes and I am just wondering what does this mean. I've heard of people -10, does this mean they have really bad sight or I have bad sight.
After getting the contacts I wonder how I wore glasses everyday for years.
