getting married abroad

    Hi all. Question. If I get married abroad....and I mean Catholic church wedding....do I need to have a civil ceremony as well?...And do I still need pre marriage course..Thanks !

    It depends on the country you go to. In some, Spain for example, if you have a Catholic wedding it is also civilly registered over there and recognized in Ireland as legal. So the Catholic ceremony covers you with nothing else needed.

    I think in France you have to be resident there for a certain amount of time (maybe 3 months) before you can have a legal ceremony.
    So you'd need to look at each country and see what their rules are.

    With regards pre marriage course I imagine that depends on the priest, we got married in Spain and our priest insisted we did the course (we did the course in Ireland though).
