    Hello

Can anyone recommend a mechanic that would do a car inspection before a purchase, in the Galway area.

Would ideally prefer if he could travel a few miles.

Know what those cost? They're comprehensive enough to be fair, but a competent indy mechanic can do the exact same job a good bit cheaper.

If its an audi you are buying op I would recommend an audi mechanic only or that other lad.

An inspection is only as good as the cover it provides if they make an absolute balls of it and miss something major.

Thanks. Did you have to bring the car to his premises?

Most will want you to bring car too them. I don't know anyone that will travel.

Have a look through this thread and contact them to check if they will come out

Can personally attest to a bad experience from the AA. I inspected a car after the AA did, and the car was an absolute ringer. AA gave it a clean bill of health.

Perhaps a once off, but I'd rather see the money given to a local indie who would have a vested interest in getting the check right.

"absolute ringer"? Did it look like another car?

Anyway, that's between you and AA head office whom I suppose you immediately contacted
It doesn't mean AA will do a bad job for OP in Galway.
And agreed, a local mechanic would be best. Can you recommend someone?

Always a good idea to put a car on a ramp for inspection and not many sales places have a ramp. It's also an easy way to know when to walk away if the seller won't let it go for inspection.

Absolutely agree, not slandering the AA as a whole and they were contacted. The car was not my purchase, rather I was asked to inspect afterwards. The fault in question was actually a missing airbag and the fault light which had been cut in the dash. A quick scan displayed the fault code, and others, and a summary check of the steering column / dash showed damage of some prior excavating. Furthermore, the timing chain was on its last legs and overall the engine was in rag order, again indicated by fault codes. The car however 'looked' perfect and was an immaculate cover up job I must say.
