Timing of Dublin Race Series events

Hi all - just wondering how the timing of the race series fits into your DCM training plan. Just starting to put together a plan for October and the race series half is only 5 weeks before the marathon. This seems very close to the marathon to me as I will be doing my 2 longest runs the following two weeks and I'm not sure I'll be fully recovered from a half race.

I was thinking of maybe doing the Rock and Roll in August but that's probably the other end of the spectrum - too early.

I would be interested in your thoughts. Thanks

Some may say it's a week or two too close to the marathon, depends on the runner and how much effort they put in. There is no reason why you would be unable to do the two long runs the two following weeks though.
You could also consider the Tullamore half at the end of August.

Athlone Flatline September 10th might suit you?

Thinking of signing up for Dublin Marathon this year. Is this series recommended as good preparation?

Yes, its great preparation. Starting at the short end of the races and building up. Plus its great value.

I think the 5m & 10k are beneficial as the tapering/recovery may only be a couple of days.

The 10m & HM are a different beast. The tapering/recovery can be detrimental to a training plan.

I plan on doing them as a MP session with easy miles before hand.
I also plan on racing the Athlone HM as its earlier than the race series half.

if the marathon is the main thing, then the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing :)
