Becoming a young farmer

    Hi All,

    I have trawled the internet and researched various farming & agricultural institutions just to get a clear and comprehensive understanding of becoming a young farmer. I would like to get a summary from start to finish of exactly what I would need in order to qualify and meet the criteria set out by the Dept of Agricutural to become a young farmer. I have my finances in place to procure approximately 50 acres of fair but dry land. I would like to structure my farming enterprise around organic farming/dry stock. What grants would I receive to help me set up and what payments would I receive as a young farmer with an organic farming structure.

    I would appreciate all and any advice from you guys.

    As it stands there is no access to the Organic Farming Scheme this year, it may open again in December like it did in 2015 but its the department who knows?? As for young farmer there is access to a Young Farmer top up on your Bps worth roughly 60 yo yos per entitlement that's on top of the BPS payment but the application date for that has passed for this year, I'm assuming the land you intend to purchase comes with entitlements.
