Summer holiday with a baby

    Hi all,

So I'm trying (and failing!) to plan a summer holiday. It's my first time planning a holiday with a baby and it will be our first time travelling with him - he'll be 6 months old. I would like to go somewhere sunny (but not "too hot") and would ideally like to be near the sea but that's not essential.

My next preference would be to rent an apartment or similar as I don't like the idea of being stuck in a hotel room for nap time or bed time!

    Any suggestions?

Maybe a mobile home in France?
If you've never gone, don't think it's bad... some of the mobile homes are better than the nicest apartments!
If you go at the start of September, you'll miss peak but are likely to still get lovely weather.
You could get the ferry over for relatively cheap at that time too... or fly-drive.

    Just a thought :)

    Congrats on the new arrival!

An apartment is definitely the way to go, you'd need some form of kitchen facilities in any event for sterilisation of baby stuff and just having a little more freedom in general.

I presume when you say sunny that you mean Spain/France/Portugal, but unfortunately, hot is the generally the order of the day. Best option would be to go wherever you want to go and try find a property with air conditioning (priceless for siesta) and that offers plenty of shade around the pool area. I'd recommend going somewhere you've been before too. It can be fairly stressful getting organised and out and about when you've a six month old to worry about and all the stuff that you need to bring along, so being somewhere where you know helps in terms of what's around, opening hours for shops etc...

A great bit of kit to bring with you is a snooze shade: https://www.amazon.co.uk/SnoozeShade-Original-sunshade-blackout-pushchairs/dp/B0039NQ3TW/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1463390686&sr=1-1&keywords=snoozeshade It's like a blackout blind for a pram and/or buggy. Works really well and we've used it for holidays with our youngest when she was six months old and then 15 months old. It makes the pram nice and dark but also allows a breeze in so baby doesn't overheat. Particularly useful when you go for a stroll and can't be sure you'd always be in the shade.
