Friend of mine renewed his license after 10 years in south. Born in the "north" of the country which in the good friday agreement is part of ireland for anyone who wants to claim they are irish. Under the good friday agreement, do we have a case for not wanting"northern ireland" on our new driving license.

Might need moved to politics forum?

Indeed, I don't understand why it doesn't say UK.

If one is born in 6 counties and is able to reconize it as ireland, then why in the name of good feck would they want it to say uk!

The GFA doesn't recognise NI as Ireland. it allows people born in NI claim Irish citizenship, but this doesnt change their place of birth which would still be Northern Ireland.

So they don't have to pay €1,494 motor tax on a 3l??

People who are born and bred in NI,who still live in NI know what side their bread is buttered.Thats why all of those who give out about being ruled by the Queen or Westminster or whatever, still won't move to the Republic, because they know damn well it will hit them in the pocket.Living in the "Free State" is much more expensive than living in the UK.And very few are willing to put their wallet were their Republic mouth is.

So your friend has an Southern Irish driving licence that says "Northern Ireland" on it?
Or did he swap his old NI licence at home in NI?

There are a few information gaps here.

I think there's a desperate grasp for outrage going on. #MustBeOutraged

As my Granny used to to say about the Derry wans, they're all Irish until you try to pay them their dole in Punts.

Because it's an identity document and that slot is for the country of birth. The U.K. Permits people to show Wales, England, Scotland, NI or UK. It's a bit of an anachronism as the country is the UK. NDLS should simply include UK. That is where the person was born; passports have the same issue.
