You've started a good few threads now, so it's hard to keep track, but Is this it:
You need a car for yourself and your grandkids, you take a good few long trips, want diesel and want something with a bit of space that won't ruin you financially.

    Is that right?

    Spot on!

Grand kids are abroad so not really that big of an issue, but would like something focus sized. Do about a thousand miles a month on average, budget is about 6k,

Just want a few creature comforts. Eg abs speedo in kms

Maybe she is right as I can't make a decision!!!

just buy an i30. no dual mass flywheel or particle filter to worry about, spacious and well equipped.

Or, dare I mention the dirty word on boards, buy a petrol car. Now. There. I've said it... A work colleague bought a 131 1.6 diesel recently. In a word, horrible. Slow noisy very tractor like especially when cold ( which is most of the time with diesels)

Took an 09 astra for a spin last week, am aware of coolant issues etc with the 1.4 engine, but it drove lovely compared to what I have but mine is doing 55 to gallon just checked it 3 wks ago,

And my journey is a minimum of 300 miles door to door, had agreed a price with seller but when I did the sums based on a figure of 40 for the astra it would cost me nearly 60 on petrol a week which is too much,

Delayed too long on an astra 09 1.7 cdti and missed it.
