For the last couple of weeks, I've had a pair of these perched on a gorse bush
on my lane , giving out to me and my dogs when we walk on by. Got a great video of them sounding quite contrite. I was finding it hard to i.d. them until I came across a description explaining how they got their name. Their alarm call does sound very like two stones being struck together !

I love stonechats :) I always look out for the pair at the top of my track returning.

From where, I've no idea. But, they turn up, in spring. Nest in the same area. Then bugger off.

But, yes; The male reappeared a week or two ago. Giving out to my Dogs as we came up the track. Hate Dogs, don't they? :D

Makes me think; I haven't seen a reed bunting in a year or two now either. You familiar with them? There's a passing similarity.

Can;t say I have seen or heard a reed bunting around my place, not that I was looking ! I'll keep an ear out for them, just listened to their call on the rspb site.
