Changing my 2009 Petrol Mondeo Estate

So i have a lovely 2009 Mondeo Estate. Petrol. 1.6 engine. Costs me 715 to tax.

I've always had a hankering for something jeepy/crossover-ish. Considering the Hyunda Ix35. Probably a 2011 1.7 diesel. The likelihood is in the future we will end up having a second child (currently one 3 year old and a dog - so no saloon). If i dont excercise that desire now it will probably never happen. Not to mention my back is not the best these days and i'm not loving the idea of lowering and bending to put baby seats in out all the time.

I see most are knocking around for about 17k. Any thoughts on whether I would actually manage to sell the Mondeo or whether it would just be easier to trade and get about 7 for it?

Also any views on the vehicle for that year? My driving is from Swords to Phoenix park every day for work via the R139 (creche) M50 and N3 before 8 so its usually moving well at about 80kmph. Aside from that all family and friends are southside so there would usually at least one trip a fortnight the length of the m50 with future family holidays being in France and a lot of weekends in Galway and Wexford.

Does it make sense to go for the diesel? At the moment I put about 80 quid in to fill the petrol tank at least once a fortnight and get 720km for it.

    Thanks for reading

it doesn't make sense on paper but nor does buying anything.
youlk save money on fuel and tax sure but you'll also have a 11k hole in your finances which essentially equates to around 250 a month you're not spendin today for the next 4 years.

Let's call it 200 over 5 years. And if there's a 30% reduction in my monthly running costs that goes a good bit towards paying it.

After that it's just personal desire. A higher riding car and something that 2 or 3 years up from where I am now that gives me a longer life than my estate that has 127k km on the clock

127k km is 78k miles, hardly high mileage on a 7 year old car and hardly going to explode anytime soon.

To be honest if you just want to change cars then great, nothing wrong with that but you rarely justify it financially or by thinking your current car is coming to the end of its useful life.

A good friend has an ix35 and a small baby. The back is pretty tight with a baby seat etc. I was putting the baby into her car seat not so long ago and nearly hit her head off the door opening as it is quite small. Wouldn't be my choice anyway

Edit: with a bad back why not get a Volvo XC60?
