Hello good folks of the Farming & Forestry forum,

    Looking for your help please.

How many square meters are there in an acre?

I'm getting confused between "irish acres" and acres

Google tells me 4046.86 square meters in an acre.......... but then I see this measurement called an "irish acre" and it is 6555 square meters.

Which is the standard acre measurement used now in Ireland and how many square meters are in it?

Many thanks in advance for the help.

Irish acre is not used any more, only the metric one.

    I always divided by 2.54.
    Where did 2.47 come from?

    4046 is the correct one....

The Irish acre comes about because every time you rent a bit of land or buy a bit of silage the acres sold to you is always bigger than the actual acres you get....

Americans have taken to dividing inches into tenths. Which is just WRONG.
