Grass is going a bit strong ATM so I was thinking about taking out a bit more silage .would you apply manure and cut within six weeks. Will it head out before I get a chance to cut it etc would cow ****s reduce quality of the feed

When was it grazed? Are you baling or pitting? What will you be feeding the silage to over winter? If it's too strong for grazing now I'd bale it straight away and you'd have nice after grass coming after it and you could take a second cut or cut other fields to keep grass right for stock while getting good quality stuff

All land has been grazed twice some three . will be for baling . one paddock went a tiny bit too strong but it was unsuitable for baling so had to eat it. There isn't any paddocks gone too strong yet but I have a lot covers (medium to high)coming together over the last few days that will be ready for eating in a couple of days but I won't be able to eat them all together iykwim

Grass growth is mental.at the moment with covers of 1800+adding over 150/day. If you are stocked up around the 4lu/ha I would pull them out straight away but if you are down under 3/ha I would give it a bag of can and mow it out in 2 weeks. You could turn that 2000 cover into a 4000, a sweet little return for your bag of can, but more importantly it would keep your cows in lower covers...more milk, more protein and more regrowth....either way it should come out...

Apologies Charolais...should have spotted the clue in the handle.....can't say exactly how beef stocking rates would compare or work relevant to dairy but I would suspect not too disimilar..

About until the 5th June then off to New Zealand. One job to lift tomorrow then looking at the weather the rest of the week might be quiet enough.
