If you have an Android phone then Google are already tracking you. That is how they figure out the live traffic data for one.

You can turn off or opt out of the Google Tracking if you wish: https://history.google.com/history/

You're informed this kind of tracking can happen in advance.

    The Norwegian complaint is different.

    http://fbrno.climg.no/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/2016-05-10-Complaint-runkeeper-ENG.pdf

"The Norwegian Consumer Council files a complaint specifically on the lack of consent regarding the collection and sharing of location data when the app is not in use, as well as the data deletion policies of Runkeeper. Regarding the issue of consent, we add that there is also fundamental problems regarding the unclear and wide permissions, with an opportunity to unilaterally change their terms without notice to their users. It could therefore be questioned whether there is actual informed consent when the app is installed and used, in addition to further changes to the policy by Runkeeper. "

RunKeeper is now owned by Asics. I doubt however, this will add up to much.

I've never known a RunKeeper user to be able to run more than a 5K anyway...

Funny you mention that. There is a chap up the North his name is Oggie Winters believe. Think he uses Runkeeper to track his runs. He has run sub under 190 or so marathons and was Ulster champion and 2th in All Ireland at one point
