Car starter issue.

So the car has a very intermittent starter issue.
Not cranking when warm, leave for 10 mins and it's fine.
    Always starts perfect when cold.

It's under warranty that covers the starter but the warranty crowd won't pay Audi prices. So do I bring it to the warranty nominated garage, and they pay, or bring to Audi and I cover the difference?

    Opinions please :)

I would say bring to Audi and you cover the difference. At least then you'll have peace of mind that Audi themselves are working on the car.

    Afterall, it's an RS4 4.2 V8......not an RS4 TDi :D

They pay set isme prices and their supplier parts price.

Just found out that Audi reckon 7 hours to change the starter so I'm considering another garage tbh.

I've yet to change a starter on a B7 RS4 but I have done several on the previous generation B6 S4 as they were/are quite troublesome. The cheapest place for the S4 replacement starter is actually Audi themselves (exchange recon unit) and it's about 2 hours labour. I'd be surprised if the RS4 labour time differed significantly from the B6 S4. Autodata lists them both at 1.9 hours.

7 hours is a lot of time.

They are taking a piss imo.

Cheers. 7 hours does seem on the excessive side from what I've seen..
4 hours is average from what I've researched.. you need to remove one engine mount.. At least...

    RS4 4.2 V8

I wouldn't service it at just any garage...

On the S4 you need to remove the right hand engine mount, seems like the RS4 is the same. It is actually an easier job on an S4 than on a 2.0TDI!

Scanned the car and got the following, might be a relay issue..

    System description: 4.2L V8/4V FSI ª
    Software version: 0090
    Hardware number: 8E1910560
    Long coding: 01040003180F0160

    Trouble codes:
P3088 - Starter relay Electrical error in circuit Upper limit exceeded
    Intermittent

If you owned a top end performance car, would you let a guy who has only ever serviced Toyotas etc. at it? I sure as fvck wouldn't.

The RS4 is one of the crown jewels in the Audi range. I would only let Audi or George Dalton near something like that.

Only Audi or this George Dalton can work on a RS4 lmao.

Laugh all you want. I've been in the situation before so I'm speaking from experience.
