Cordless Hammer Drill Recommendations??

Hi All,

Am looking into getting a Cordless Hammer drill for general DIY around the house and also around a farm yard.

I previously had a Ryobi which unfortunately didnt last to long. (It was a gift so personally if I was buying at the time I most likely would have went for a different brand, it was a good drill just not very durable etc)

I had a quick browse online and came across the following on Wholesale Welding Supplies:

Hitachi DV18DGL/JF - 229euro
Hitachi DV18DSFL/JF - 231euro
(Unfortunately cannot post full links as I don't have enough posts yet)

How would you guys with knowledge in this area recommend or give preference to either of the above OR would you maybe have any other recommendations on anything you may have seen lately?? Willing to spend 200-250euro for something decent also, preferabbly 18V and am guessing that 2.5AH batteries should be fairly sufficient.

Sell power tools for a living and both examples would be good Hitachi are a good solid make. Avoid shopping online for DIY stuff as it tends to be dearer than your local hardware shop. De Walt is also good as is Makita.

The price seems to be up and down all the time, it's £239 from amazon now. It's a great kit, the batteries alone will set you back over £50 each.

Did a good bit of research before buying it, reading lots of reviews etc and it seemed to be very highly rated.

Thanks - Yes I have to call to a local tool center tomorrow for a few bits and will be having a look there to see what they have also. Just trying to get an idea of recommendations and opinions first.

If its diy use nothing wrong with a cheap sds and a seperate cordless drill, they will all drill holes and drive screws its as simple as that.

I don't buy cheap ones anymore. Found there is no point. Buy good, buy once.

By the way, why would he buy a cheap sds drill (I presume you mean corded) and another cordless drill?

And from my experience....... they most definitely do not all drive screws, you need a decent impact driver for that

Just an FYI....I do already have a corded drill and sds drill for times when carrying out the more heavier drilling. Just looking for something when it is a smallish job to be done and not have the hassle of extension cords etc or where power may not be available for some farm jobs....

I bought a hitachi 18v li ion on screwfix.ie a while ago cant remember exactly how much but it was under â‚¬150 delivered.
Ive had a good few cordless drills in my time this is by far the best you wouldnt go wrong with the hitachi.
