Dunno if anyone has a 'proper' race thread in the offing - if so this can meekly go out the back & be swept up by the broom wagon - but for now it can fill humbly fill the void.

Apparently very much expected to be for the sprinters, lumpy enough looking terrain but a descent & flat for the last 40kms of a 210 km stage.
So the finish by the sound of it not tough & more to Kittel's liking than Stage 5 brilliantly won by Greipel, but Kittel's sense of invincibility presumably much lesser now than then.

A couple of links with images & everything:

The first considers Kittel & Greipel as joint fav's, the second oddly goes a bit leftfield to plump for Nizzolo. Personally I fancy Chris Horner for this one. He's very experienced & has kept his powder very dry.

the peloton has split on the first climb already, break of three away and they mopped up the main points of the KOM. The 4th place Wellens moves ahead of Cunego and take the provisional jersey. Still a later climb to come at the 50kms to go mark

Abandons today - Matteo Pelucchi - one sprinter down. His teammate also abandoned

A group of six out front followed by 19 chasers which include no less than 7 Movistar! Valverde, Betancur & Amador are in there & are 25secs back & over 2mins ahead of main peloton.

Nibali, BigTom & Majka are in the group of 19 but no team mates. Kruisjwik has one team mate.

Scratch that, I was taking that info from the Cycling News App but now their own commentary completely conflicts with that. Don't know what's happening.

Definitely a group of 6 out front but unclear after that.

I think it's all together bar the Küng and Denifl group. Lots of climbing to come though :D

Terrible fall for Moreno of Movistar. Being stretchered off in an ambulance now. Haven't seen any footage of the fall, must have been bad. :(

    Fractured collarbone for Moreno.

Climb coming up, should set the tone for the type of sprint we will get.

Final 10kms. Looks like Kung put in a great ride though a sprint going to decide things surely..

    Kittel out of the sprint

André Greipel came from no where. He lost a lot of places and then blew by them.

Caleb Ewan will be disappointed with that. Did he go just 100 metres too early? Greipel is so strong.

A touch early but Greipel was boxed in and managed to get out. Dont think you can factor that in to your sprint.

Incredible Giro for Lotto Soudal - a hattrick of stages. Looking at the aerial shots - what a composed ride by Greipel, letting the others get ahead of him behind Roelandts, then calmly moving back up & powering through late on.

Tomorrow should be an epic. Rain forecast, few climbs, and gravel roads :D

Chavez, Amador, and Hesjedal have fallen victim to a 9 second split.

Ah Hesjedal shouldn't be grouped in with Chavez and Amador. Hesjedal seems to always do his very best to lose time as quickly as possible in Grand Tours! :pac:
