Anyone know of anywhere I might pick up a good quality A1181 (2008 white macbook) battery? I guess it's pretty unlikely that I would pick up an oem one in this day and age? Looking at various third party options it's hard to tell if what you are getting is any good. Anyone got any recommendations?

On a related note, I'm amazed I got as long as I did out of the battery. Bought the computer in second hand 2011. 5 years of use and the battery finally died a couple of months ago. Not sure what the final cycle count was but it was near 1800 I think.

Maybe it's time for a new computer :pac:

I bought an A1185 from laptop batteries.ie and it packed up after 6 months or so.

As with iPhone batteries, it's a lucky dip. They are all either knock-offs or used batteries. You take your chances.

I'd suggest buying from an Amazon seller with good reviews. However, don't make the mistake of thinking that the more expensive ones are better quality. Sometimes it's best to go for the cheapest and be prepared to replace it/return it if it fails in a short time period.

If you really want the genuine battery and are prepared to pay for it, try contacting the online Apple Store by phone. They still sell some items that are no longer shown on the website.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll take my chances with a third party one. There seem to be a few on Amazon that have reasonably positive reviews although I think it will always be a lottery. It's likely that the macbook will stay plugged into the wall the majority of the time anyway so I'm not really worried about capacity or run times.

I got one 5 years ago from 7dayshop.com and it is still going strong.
Doesn't have the full usage life of the original but it isn't bad.
    Pretty happy with it.

Edit: just checked their site and they don't seem to carry stock like that anymore - sorry!

    Just an update.

I ended up just going for a cheap third party battery.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Replacement-Battery-MACBOOK-Bay-Valley/dp/B015S5YIP4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464090288&sr=8-1&keywords=a1181+bay+valley

Received it yesterday and all seems well so far. Time will tell how it holds up in the longer term.

    Thanks again for the replies/suggestions.
