New Instagram Design

    I've been through a week now, with my HTC 10. It's such a well put together phone... They've made the Sense UI very slick and Google's Material Design looks fantastic...

    I keep my phone lean... I only keep a very refined list of useful apps and even fewer make it to my homescreen. I've been impressed with how 3rd party developers have implemented Material Designs, even through to the icons...

    Then Instagram come out with a purely Apple centric design and icon, ignoring Material Design.

    My big problem is that on such a clean and sophisticated design, their new icon glares like a child's skittles vomit... Everytime I go to my homescreen it tries to burn my retinas...

    I just think its disrespectful to Android users... I'm considering deleting the app altogether, even though I do use it regularly.

    Uninstall, download an older version of the app and turn off the auto update for it and problem solved. Can't see any benefits to the redesign bar it looking terrible.

    It's a pretty horrific design and one that completely disregards any android design aesthetic but you can change it easily enough.

    I wonder if this is a publicity thing for instagram, and whether they'll change the icon with the backlash. Then again this happens with most new designs (think facebook layouts) and little reverts.

    The irony of this post after years of android users complaining about Apple products being locked down... Now you want all your android apps to follow the same pattern!

    I doubt it. It looks awful on iOs too.

    None of that bothers me. It's the fact that the pictures appear to no longer be in chronological order.

    Been like that for a while now, rather annoying.

    New design is brutal also. So plain and boring. Went back to the previous version.


    OP, if you dislike the new icon that much - switch to a launcher that lets you change it (like Nova)

    Not quite as bad as Telefónica Ireland Limited's or Autoaddress's app.

    I would recommend that you first give the app a bad review in the play store, then uninstall the app - if enough people do it, the company might recruit a competent developer. (In the meantime, create a shortcut to the web version through Chrome, open the website in Chrome, click the 3-dot menu in top right, and then "add to home page".)
