    Try WhatsApp. You can see when they look at the message.

    That is not always true, some networks take longer than others. Same within Ireland. Some text to ID for example can be delayed from some networks.

    Generally it will be almost instant but can take longer - congestion, maintenance on the network etc can slow it down. SMS is not guaranteed to be instant even within Ireland you can have lengthy delays.
