Hi all,
I bought a new Smart TV recently and played around with hooking up the satellite signal directly into the TV.
I now have all the channels from Astra 19.2. (England, etc.)

I have 2 LNBs on my dish and previously, I was using a Silvercrest box and was able to jump from the 19.2 to Astra 28.2 (Germany, etc.)
At the time of install, I only got one cable into the house and now, I am planning to get two cables brought into the house.

I have another box (VU) that will take the two cables and was just wondering if I would need to use that?
My question therefore is, is it just such a box that can handle two signals and make both accessible, or have TVs the smarts to do that too?
You may have worked out that I'm not an expert in such things!

Finally, what kind of a connection will allow me feed the two cables into a TV that only has one connection slot available?
Thanks in advance.

DiSEqC switching, if the TV has it, will allow the feed from 2 LNBs into a single receiver input via 2x1 DiSEqC switch located at the dish.

cables are cheap. Labour isn't so consider running an extra cable or two while you are at it.

With satellite each tuner needs its own cable or you drastically reduce what you can watch at the same time.

Pretty much any satellite receiver except a SKY box will be able to operate a Diseqc switch. It splits one cable from the receiver to multiple cables to the LNB's. So you'd need one per cable from the receiver / TV

Generally you setup Astra 2 on port 1 of the switches in case anyone connects a SKY box later on.

thanks all,
i'll get my guy guy in shortly. I know that he ran two cables but combined them before they came into the house.
need him to fix my Saorview aerial now as have lost all Irish channels - they come up on the satellite list as scrambled.

see also this if your satellite box has an LNB OUT connection

You can use tuner 1 out to feed a TV satellite tuner. I do just that with my Foxsat-HDR.

Firstly the box must be set to low power sby.

In low power sby the TV will have access to all channels - The TV tuner has full control of the LNB.

When the Foxsat-HDR is on, recording in sby or within 15 mins of an accurate recording then the Foxsat tuner 1 has lnb control.

The channels you can watch on the TV depend on the band (high/low) and polarisation (Vertical/Horizontal) of the channel tuner 1 of the Foxsat is using.

This gives 4 possible combinations. However the Freesat epg has only a very few high band channels (none of them the mainstream ones). This means a little bit less than 50% of the available channels will be viewable on the TV (and record if it's a smart TV). All you need now is to know what channels are in each of the 4 variations.

That info can be downloaded in Excel or HTML (viewable in a browser) from the thread here. Bear in mind that BBC SD regions exist in both horizontal and vertical polarisation options. This means that provided the Foxsat is using a low band channel then BBC 1 SD can always be recorded using the TV.
