So, I've found the ideal car, but it's a good distance away.
What's the best way to ensure I don't get sold a pup?
It's too far away to bring my local mechanic along so how can I have it checked out given how far away it is?

    Where is it?

It would be worth doing a history check on it if you're serious about it.

Bring it to a local garage in the same location of the car, ask them to run a diagnostics on it, if it checks out, happy days, if it doesn't....... well , walk away.

A diagnostic check is useless to a certain degree. Will a diagnostic check tell you if the under side is rusty, along with brake lines etc or broken coil spring?

I suppose a very recent NCT and a local mechanic might do the trick, I'm hoping to look at a 407 estate, 1.6hdi, we shall see.

Where in the country is it? You'd really want to thoroughly checking it out as they're a minefield.
