I bought a really nice lim bull last September . He has great figures 5 stars maternal 4 star replacement 145 index 5 kg milk and quite. The problem is on the day I was going to let him out he managed to rip one of his toes of the back of his leg. His his foot swelled up. Got to the bottom of the infection let him out. The wound has reopened and his foot is swollen again . Could not be at a worse time. I am worried about getting the infection completely cleared and and infertility . I wonder should I cut my losses

Is he lame? How many will he be serving? What price do you put on him not getting all these incalf, them all pushing out afew months or having to be culled. Sicking alright but trust me having a bull who hasn't done the business on 1/4 of your herd and you ending up dropping 100k worth of milk alongside making a hash of your calving interval etc etc is absolutely not fun at all, happened here afew yrs back.

Cut your losses , too much risk and the cost of replacement will far out weight the loss of calves on the ground and delayed calving pattern for your herd going forward , your call

Had something similar few weeks back. Bull very lame. Thought I was goin to have to factory him. Got 5 day withdrawal antibiotic twice, saucy 75 a bottle. Still lame. Washed it and treated with iodine ( 10)heavily for 5 days. Seems to have cleared up.

Get him fertility tested. If he's working he's working if not at least you know and can ai or something.

He has got four cows in calf before i let him out i got them scanned two weeks ago. Could he go infertility from the infection. Looking we got him early so he never got a temperature. We hit hard with antibiotics and anti inflammatorys

I'd still be getting him tested the drugs can often make them infertile while usually only temporary it would be worth knowing.

Drugs won't make him infertile as s rule however a raised temperature from infection might

What did you do to the poor bull. I have an image of a poor innocent bull going la dee dah what a lovely day to be eating grass.
Then there's a snap of a rubber glove and somebody did something unspeakable and now he's trembling at the mere sight of a person.

By nervous do you mean wicked for want of a better term.

    That's frightening close:o
Not wicked just nervous to go any where near the scene of the crime, and he was a very easy going bull before..

What breed is bull - did guy testing do a rough job. We test a number of bulls every year with vet and there is never an issue with them after. When selling bulls now a lot of farmers ask for test so they minimise risk for their iherds and in fairness farmers will pay a few extra bob in the ring for a fertility tested bull..
