When will conditional job offer turn to formal job offer?

I recently got offered a job with a well known it consultancy firm in Dublin.
Basically its a conditional job offer subject to a background check (criminal convictions and credit check I believe).
However my job starts in 3 weeks (the first of June) and as I will have to relocate from Galway to Dublin I kind of need to know if I definitely have the job so I can secure accommodation in time. Like I cant put down a deposit on a house if I dont know for sure If I have the job yet? I missed a few credit union payments while in college due to being broke and thats the only thing that they could use against me to withdraw their job offer. Which is why Im not 100 percent certain theyll give me the all clear.

What should I do? Im afraid to ring HR as I dont want to sound pushy but I kinda need to know as soon as possible if I have the job or not as I have to find a place to live in Dublin? :/

    Any advice anyone? :(

The credit check will look to see if you have any civil judgements against you or if you're badly in arrears or have defaulted on any loans. In effect the background check is designed to figure out if you're in financial difficulty and therefore might try and take money from the financial institution.

A few missed payments on a small loan won't affect you, especially if the loan is cleared or is being serviced.

If they're asking you to start before or just after the credit checks are run, then they're confident that there shouldn't be an issue.

Hi seamus thanks for the reply. My issue is that I need a formal offer so I can put a deposit on a house. I have less that 3 weeks to relocate to Dublin and I need a definite answer from them before I put down a deposit you see. I'm afraid if I don't get an answer fast I won't be able to secure accommodation

is the financial institution a member of the irish credit bureau and is the credit union you were a member of also?

A lot of the time, people start jobs while the background check is ongoing, and it's subject to the check being successful. It's perfectly normal for this to happen.

Could you get an airbnb for the first week or two or stay in a hostel?

Hey sthento, thanks for the reply. The bank said if u there was a delay returning my pre employment forms to them my start date would be delayed so I think in this case I won't be starting till until the checks have been done. However that Airbnb is a brilliant idea. I could do that if I run out of time to look for accommodation. Thanks!
