Wire Retainer keeps debonding

    Hi,

    Backgroud:
Finished invisalign treatment then got a bonded wire retainer top and bottom at £300 each (I'm based in the UK).

After 4 weeks wear the top retainer came loose. The dentist said this happens often and arranged to refit a new retainer on the top.

When I returned for my fitting, the pre-tensioned retainer mould hadn't arrived to the practice, so she said she could make one herself. From what I could ascertain she made one using a piece of wire and bonding agent.
She was a bit flustered phoning suppliers and apologizing but assured me this make shift one would work just as well.

Two weeks later one side of this replacement retainer has debonded again.

    Question
Are these retainers really this fragile?
It's not like I'm eating rocks or anything.

How many replacements are typically covered under a treatment "warranty"?

My teeth were pretty good after the invisalign however with all this faffing around with retainers I've noticed they have started to move again.

    Any thoughts or recommendations?

Are you being seen by a dentist or an orthodontist?
How long was your treatment time? When was the last retainer fitted?
Have you any further appointments booked, for follow up/review/fitting of the definitive lab made retainer?
I can't imagine you'll be charged again for another retainer. Of more concern is the risk of drifting& relapse of the teeth; you need to address this asap before you veer back into the re-treatment zone.

the retainer debonding is different to the retained breaking, but you should get it seen to. your regular dentist should be able to sort it out.
