Getting a watch resprayed - Any help appreciated!

    Hey guys,

I recently bought a Larsson & Jennings matt black watch for my birthday and have noticed a few minor scratches on the housing (can't think of a better word) of the watch itself. They aren't very noticeable but I was wondering if anyone knew some where in Dublin where the paint job could be touched up? I had a look online but didn't notice any repair places that offered this kind of service.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have a google of PVD case finishing and DLC case finishing . They are the two main ways of coloring a watch case black.
I believe one method is better / more resistant to scratching than the other but I'm not sure which.

I have never heard of Larsson & Jennings... I'm off to have a Google.

So are either of them an option with an existing watch here in Ireland? I'm sure I could return it to the manufacturer but I was hoping to just drop it in somewhere around Dublin.

    Thanks.

I would be very surprised if this is as simple as you seem to think it is and I'd also be surprised if there's anywhere you could just walk in. Case re-finishing is an art in itself and before anybody will look at it, they'll need a watchmaker to strip out the movement, crystal etc. As has been stated try a bit of googling on PVD and DLC to get an idea what's involved. For a starter this came up on TZ-UK recently and it reinforces the need to know who's doing the work and how good they are.

I don't mean to sound rude but I only want a small bit of Matt black added to the watch where some minor scratches have worn away the existing finish and was wondering if anyone had a similar problem that they resolved locally.

The suggested techniques sound a bit beyond what I'm looking for in this instance and I don't believe it would be necessary to break the watch down for this particular task. I wouldn't remove the engine of my car if I was respraying a panel!!

Perhaps I didn't explain how minor the scratches were and how they only effect the finish not the case itself. My apologies and I appreciate the advice.

I'm going to speak to a few repair places in the city and if they can't help I'll contact the manufacturer, hopefully they will be able to suggest a solution.

Thanks again for the help guys. Haven't a notion how I managed to scratch it, pity it didn't come with one of the suggested finishes!!

I'd say it's just going to keep happening, learn to live with it, even stainless steel watches get scratched.

Think that's true. I previously had a silver watch and eventually you'd see a few scratches. I think in this instance, with the black finish, its just more noticeable/annoying!! Thanks for the advice guys, appreciate it.
