Hi folks, as title says, how fast can I complete 12 EDT lessons? Is there any minimum period of time I have to wait to complete each lesson or..?

    Thanks

Depending on your instructor they can be 1 hr / 1.5 hrs in lenght. So... 12 / 18 hrs which isn't anywhere near enough driving time for experience.

You still need to meet the 6 month period on the learners permit, prior to applying for a test.

I know, I know, I got my learners permit in January but I didn't start my lessons yet.. The question is.. can I finish all needed lessons in one month and after that apply for test?(after 6 months)?

All they need to accept an application for a test is that you've had the permit for 6 months and that there 12 ADI lessons logged for you.

It doesn't matter how those lessons are done.

But if you don't put enough time in for yourself to do them with practice as well, don't expect to pass it after the month. because it'll only be 12 / 18 hours that you've had proper instruction, without giving yourself time to apply your learnings between lessons.

I did all mine in under a month if i recall. i did a two hour lesson twice a week for 3 weeks. then i had to wait over two months to actually get to sit the test (waiting times are mad towards the end of summer) so i continued doing 1.5 hours a week until the test date. ended up doing over double the amount of lessons i needed to do.
if you have no prior driving experience i doubt you will be ready after 12 lessons

I wasn't ready after 12 lessons, and I had been driving for 30 years before I took them (the last 10 without incident, and never in the 30 years had an accident that was my fault). Of course I am an American immigrant who had always driven automatic (as is typical in the US). This was a little complicated by the fact that my husband doesn't drive due to an eye injury, and I don't really know anyone in the area to practice with. Driving on "the other side of the road" wasn't an issue. The gears... Oh, God, the gears. Anyway, I had one lesson each week and studied the drivers' manual thoroughly. Not passing my test on the first try was due to being terrible with the gears. Not passing it on the second try was due to sheer bad habits from being a US driver (especially my approach to roundabouts). Don't rush your lessons. Do practice. It will only cost you money and time to have to repeat tests.

There is no minimum length. Depends on the amount of practice you can get in , your own learning ability and of course your instructor. For example before you could do roundabouts and junctions you should be quite proficient at gear changing/braking.

If you do 1.5 hours lessons then to comply with the law you need do only 8 lessons. The law states 12 hours, not lessons.

You can't do a test without having 12 lessons logged though.

    Hi,
If an instructor says it's 1.5 hour lessons for the EDT and logs 1 lesson, then he is ripping off his pupil.

When the EDT was launched the instructor could refuse to sign off a lesson and not sign until in his opinion the objective for that lesson was achieved.

A delegation from Ballina RSA went on a tour nationwide to explain the workings of the EDT to the instructors.

After a meeting or two this clause was very quickly changed. Now the instructor has no legal right to refuse to sign off a lesson (of 1 hour).

He can of course advise extra hours

If you do 2 hour lessons the instructor logs each 2 hour one as 2 lessons.

It doesn't need to be 2 individual sessions, you just have to cover each lesson structure which is an hour long.

Fair enough lads, but I'm not being charged by time. So I recon I'm benefiting if I'm getting a bit more from the lesson.
