95 rule changes ratified

Apparently these have been in the pipeline for a while but only just ratified.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35736241 (bit at the end of the article)

Most seem to be small things like being able to pass backwards from kick off. The changes to the last man rule look sensible but the new rule of feinting penalties will surely catch someone out in the heat of the moment (new rule states player gets a yellow and the penalty isn't retaken) assuming refs finally crack down on this. Apparently they are looking at potentially giving the refs the ability to give a penalty goal similar to a penalty try in rugby so that if a Suarez incident happens again then the ref can give a goal instead of a penalty.

The article also talks about testing for video refs by the season after next which hopefully goes well.

Thought I would share as I don't think most will be aware of the changes. Anyone any thoughts on the changes?

What exactly do they mean by "feinting" a penalty? Like a stuttered run up?

Yeh when they run then stop then run and take it. How sickened would you be if you did that scored and you're off celebrating then find not only is it not goal but you're booked and its a goal kick!

John Aldridge wouldn't have liked that rule, would he? I think Robbie Keane's been known to try the shuffle too.

The one thing I really wish they'd have the courage to crack down on is this grappling that occurs at corners and set-pieces. A lot of the time the defenders aren't even aware of where the ball is. It's supposed to be football, not wrestling or judo.

I'd like to see a determination to crack down on this. Let every team know prior to the season that there will be zero tolerance and start giving penalties consistently for those who engage in it. We might have a week or two of games with two or three penalties a match but eventually they will get the message and stop.

The attitude nowadays seems to be, 'well, it's wrong, but every team does it so what can you do?'

Would be great if they could introduce a type of rule that stops players picking up the ball and/or running away with it after they commit a foul, then throwing it back just to waste time. Even in grassroots football it's a head wrecker.

For the grappling didn't the fa get tough on it at the start of one season but it died off about 2 months later after much analysis. Think it was about 4 or 5 years ago.

Great. More things for referees to get wrong.

If the penalty taker isn't allowed feint then the goal keeper should remain static on the line til the ball is struck, fair is fair. None of this grobellar wobbly knees business

Yeh that's another change. Ref can book them for moving early now. That will surely be another rule that is never enforced!

Never understood the hullabaloo about feinting a penalty kick. What's wrong with it?

Stuttering runs are still allowed, players just can't feint the kick itself:
