Catholics voting for DUP

I was surprised to hear of the rise in Catholics voting for the DUP because SF not longer stands for Christian values. I wonder does this mean a UI is dead? I think its a good thing to have a part of the Island that is still Christian in name.

    Good evening!

To be honest as an evangelical Protestant I am concerned at the idea of evangelical Christian politics.

I don't want to live in a theocracy. Jesus' kingdom isn't of this world (John 18:36). I want to show grace to non-Christians. I don't want people to see us attempting to force people to live under Christian laws. But I do want people to see Christians living Christian lives and see something of the love of our Lord. (John 13-30-31).

Much thanks in the Lord Jesus Christ,

I wouldn't think SF ever had "christian values" considering their history and I doubt the DUP has any either considering how entrenched Orangism and Loyalism is in it.

I don't think any of the parties in the North embody Christian values (a flexible term), although some of them pretend to. Same goes for the South. I'd be quite concerned if they claimed to tbh.

I'd agree Benny. Its quiet disconcerting to see people who profess to be followers of Jesus Christ espousing secterianism , racism and societings such as the Orange Order and the Black Preceptory both of which are anti catholic and aligned with terrorist organisations.

So you would vote for a party that is pro-abortion?

I had a similar conversation with a Northern friend last weekend. The only pro-life parties are the DUP and TUV, but there is no way I would ever consider voting for either of them as they are anti-Irish, hate filled sectarian morons. Its a moral dilemma that I wouldnt be able to answer.

I don't think there are any parties in the island of Ireland that are "pro abortion" - ie have a policy that abortion must happen in some circumstances (eg if a woman already has a child).

There are some parties which are pro-choice. I'd have no problem voting for one of those, because it's individuals who choose whether to have an abortion, whether by travelling to the UK etc (as now) or by requesting it here, not the system that makes the choice for them.

As pointed out by another poster I don't believe there is any "pro-abortion" party, care to name one?

    Good evening!

I think alma73 is asking if people would want to vote for a pro-life candidate as a Christian.

I wouldn't say that. I would say in a secular human capacity I would choose a pro-life candidate or one that campaigned for reducing the abortion limit.

However that opinion is based on a secular political objection on human rights grounds rather than a religious one. If I were an atheist I would still oppose pro-choice legislation.

Naturally I'm more keen to discuss Christianity on the Christianity forum however.

Much thanks in the Lord Jesus Christ,

I'd vote for the party I feel looks after the best interests of the living rather than the unborn

Im not too convinced that the main Northern parties are either pro life or pro choice given their sectarian backgrounds.

I can understand that if abortion was the only issue of importance to someone, or by far the most important issue to someone, they might consider voting for the DUP. My understanding was that the SDLP took a pro-life position as well. Most people don't vote based on one single issue though.
