    It's now standard practice on Twitter to flag an external link as 'video' when appropriate. People browsing on a mobile device want to know if the link points to a video because if it does, they won't bother clicking on the link if they are on mobile data or roaming.

    Original post has had an explanation of the link added to prevent any horrifying issues with the RTE report about Ryanair moving to STN auto-playing on anyone's device.
    On a personal level I have auto-play disable on my phone so this cannot happen to me regardless of the platform I am using.

    Looks like it. This was well pre LCC era so they may have used them by choice where available.

    Indeed they did - I flew a Ryanair BAC 1-11 Dublin to liverpool in 1990. And returned in a Vickers Viscount a few days later. I suspect the viscount was a temporary hire job as it is not listed in the ryanair historical fleet.

    Yes, just for a few weeks in 1990. British Air Ferry's G-AZNA.

    Edit: ended its career serving as an advertisement for a disco in Belgium!

    Ahh Memories.......... Fierce noisy though, those engines really did know how to disturb things in the area, as did the RomBAC 1-11's that were also used for a while by Ryanair. In the same vein, I for one don't miss the dawn chorus of the 737-200's as they headed off in all directions at 0 dark hundred.

    Ah you just ruined it, the 737-200's P&W's JT8D's were and still are the best sounding engine, especially the reversers, absolutely loved the whine. I actually miss them

    I think the 737 classics and 747s are some of the most beautiful aircraft ever built

    727 is in my personal opinion a nicer looking machine then any 737. Used to enjoy in the days gone by cycling up to the back road of a summers evening to catch the cargo 727s of Hunting as they were called then. Also Iberia in the early 90s would have operated them into DUB.

    The BAC 1-11 kicked up one hell of a racket and left some trail of smoke behind them. Have it in my mind that they must have been the noisest yoke our of DUB in the early 90's. They were quite prevalent too as if I recall BAC(?) the charter crowed as well as Tarom used to operate them into DUB also.

    There used to be a cream covered 111 with a maroon coloured tail, I think it had something like EAC or EAL written on it, there was some rackett out of it and the smoke,,, oh it was magic, happy days.

    I absolutely agree 100% on that. She was a really powerful beauty.

    Insofar as noise was concerned the Aeroflot Tupolev TU-154 into DUB on, I think, Sundays, was another awesome machine.

    Here is one. They were hired in quite regularly by Ryanair until a certain new CEO determined that this was an expensive way to run the business and the practice was scaled back.
