We bought a car in March and dealer sent v5 to dvla in Swansea

This morning we received a certificate if export. Will this suffice for the vrt check?

Did you keep the rest of the V5? You're supposed to keep it when exporting the vehicle.

Just the top bit. The nct turned us away last month with what we had. I phoned Dublin number of nct and she said export certificate is fine. I dont trust the on site people though.

    That should be fine.

I made the same mistake as you a few years ago. Sent off the full V5 by mistake and had to get onto the DVLA. I got the same as you (Certificate of Export) back. Was able to use that to register the car and get screwed for VRT.

I believe you have to be UK resident to get a refund. What address did you put on V5C?

ROI address. It is unbelievable all this. You'd think ROI was on the other side of the world.

UK vehicle tax is not transferable between owners, so there is nothing to be refunded here assuming you took it straight to Ireland.

I taxed the car in dealers. I couldnt leave garage without buying tax.

They won't reissue the V5C with a foreign address; makes sense really as if the car is not going to be kept at a UK address. It's not surprising that you didn't know but it is all stated in black and white ont he instructions for the dealer. I expect in due course you will get a letter from DVLA letting you know that they have noted that the car has been exported.

McSween, I know this is an old thread, but just wondering how long you were waiting for the certificate of export from the DVLA in Swansea?

I bought a car from England last week and had my VRT inspection yesterday, turns out I'd been given the wrong part of the V5C. Sending off form for export cert to DVLA today, but if it goes over the 30 days (which is likely, I've only 22 days left) will I be charged penalties on the VRT?

Also, my insurance company said that they will only cover me for 28 days on foreign reg plates, which was fine at the time as I thought I'd have Irish plates within a week...:(
