    Howdie all,

Recently engaged and looking to set a date for 2017-2018 depending on venue/band availability.

Anyway we're lookin to see if the following is possible anywhere in Ireland,

Hire an old style venue(castle/ manor / anything with some old style charm) for exclusive use for the weekend which can fit and accommodate up to 100 guests.

We should be able to use our own caterers and bring our own drink.

    That's it basically.

We've looked at a lot of the manors/ castles and while they obviously appeal the 100+ pp price tag doesn't!

I'd love to hear from anyone who's have done this type of thing before fornany advice!

    Cheers

Black water castle near fermoy is exclusive use- it doesn't sleep big numbers though it will accommodate a large crowd for a hooley!

Portlick castle in glasson is fab. It's not far from glasson golf club / hotel and over the lake from the wineport

That place is sweet I must say. Any idea of costs? Will submit an enquiry anyway as on first appearance it would appear perfect!

I haven't! Milly33 is a regular poster in this forum- if I remember rightly, she's had her wedding there. Perhaps she will be along at some point to give you some info.

Im here!! haha did I hear Blackwater Castle.....

:) ah what can I not say... Congrats MarcusFenix!! Happy Engagement to you..

There are a fair amount of places out there, that would suit.. The best thing to do maybe is decide what part of the Country ye would like, and then after that is the list of what ye want from the venues.

This site here has a few places http://www.formerglory.ie/
Or check out One Fad Day also there should be a list of venues there..

Inis Beg close to Baltimore is nice place.

Then Blackwater - it does sound like it might be something ye would like.. You rent out the place for the weekend. You pay your fee for this, which at the beginning you may go Phew that's a bit steep..But there is no other costs or anything else is up to ye. Ye can do as little or as much as you like there.. There are rooms in the castle, there is a house onsite too and dorms... So plenty of space there.. Have a lot of the details still saved if you wanted any info on the place..

Lisnavagh house, Carlow meets most, if not all, of your criteria..

    Thanks for the reply Milly!

From what we saw of the place from online details it looks like exactly what we want but with 1 major issue, they say they can sleep 70 on the property but from the looks of the dorm it mostly bunk beds like a hostel.

We will be having mostly couples at the wedding so this would be a big negative. Do you know if this is included in the rental price for the weekend? How many private couples could we sleep from your experience?

Details of caterers or whatever you have would be awesome too thx!

    M

Well it all depends really on how fussy the guests are.. Thinking off the top of my head there are

9 bedrooms in the castle itself.
4 bedrooms (one is a single) in the house onsite
70 in the dorms or theses can be broken up into 3 dorms if you wanted couples or families as such to have private rooms

There is lots of accommodation in the village inc bnb, private houses...

I have a list of suppliers alright i can send onto you

We viewed Loughcrew House near Oldcastle, Co Meath. You can get married in the ruins of an old church beside it. They don't charge corkage and it's very DIY - you supply caterers and it has a gorgeous old converted stable as the reception room with a lovely courtyard.
I think they only sleep about 35 in the main house though. However there is accom not too far away and you can camp on the grounds. They don't care how many blow up beds you bung into the house too.
From memory it was about 5grand for a 2day hire

    Is that including accommodation?

Yep it is, that includes all the rooms. Wait maybe they only sleep about 20....but as I said, you can throw in loads of extra beds and people can camp aswell. Check out their website http://loughcrewhouse.com/
    It has a nice vibe!

Thanks Plankton1! I assume form you saying you "viewed" the place that you did't actually use it, can I ask what turned you off it?

We were considering having a tipi on the lawn, leading into the courtyard area but in the end the accumulated costs between the tipi and everything else would have been too much. If we were having a smaller amount of guests I certainly would have gone back for a closer look. The rooms are really nice and the house is totally set up for self catering so you could arrive the day before the wedding, set everything up, get married the next day and have a big group brekkie the next morning before checking out. I'm pretty sure you can hire it for 3 days for a few hundred quid extra.

The drawback would be that the bar is in a separate room than the dinner and dancing room. However if you were utilising the courtyard that joins the two, this wouldn't be a biggie.

Boris House, Co Carlow? House sleeps less than 10 but they have self catering cottages for another 20 and the Step House Hotel directly across the road would sleep another 50 odd. It's an amazing venue. Check out the ballroom. (I got married there so am biased!)

Segrave House Dunany Co Louth, beautiful old house with renovated barns, I've been to a few weddings there and its beautiful, old world charm and great hosts who will go out of their way to make your day extra special. Some accomodation onsite as well as camping. Look up ashtreebarn.com for their rental property and I think they have a page on facebook for Segrave house. Well worth looking at. :)

    Hi all,

The whole self catering thing wasn't a goer I'm afraid so we ended up booking Barbarstown castle in straffan!
