I am considering buying a 2006/2007 Range Rover. Is the 3.6 lite engine in 2007 + models worth the extra money compared to the BMW 2.9 litre engine. There is a big price difference between the 2 engine types. Is it worth paying extra?

I have an 08 RR vouge have had her 4 years now the best yoke to come about the house.
They are as easy on juse as any 4-4 thankfully gave little trouble ( intercooler houses ) the steelers like to charge well for using the computer to diagnose any problems parts are not to pricey though.
If you have not already purchased have a read here also get parts.
    Best of luck Attie

The 3.6 TDV8 is a far superior engine in power terms, also the 2008+ model has a lot more refinements. In general reliability is quite good although there is a caveat.

for the TDV8 , preventative maintenance and a proven service history are a must. The intercooler hoses do go, they are not expensive but worth paying the few quid to get them done when you buy the car (unless there is proof of them having been done recently.

The only thing that really goes on the TDV8's aside from that is the turbochargers. They will fail without warning and pretty silently. If the car comes up restricted performance and starts smoking then you have to pull over and turn the engine off ASAP. when the turbo's go they start leaking oil into the intercooler and if you keep the engine running after a few minutes oil will get into the cylinders and cause serious damage.

I have a 2010 model with this engine and one turbo failed while I was coming out of a car park a few weeks ago, that was taken in and changed and they discovered the other one was failing at the same time, so 2 turbos had to be changed , at a cost of 5k. The car has less than 60,000 miles on it and had a full main dealer history, so these things do go.

Make no mistake, this is not a corolla you can buy and drive into the ground. I kept a fund aside for when something did go wrong , and now the fund has been used.

Try get a years warranty if your buying from a dealer, and make sure it covers turbochargers.

Aside from that they are an amazing vehicle and the best thing you'll ever drive in the SUV category. Would highly recommend it.
