I see that IR plan to start looking for drivers over the next 5 years to cope with increased services.

Does anybody here have information about where drivers operate out of.

Do drivers start on the services like the Dart and move to intercity services or is it one week on one another on the other.

    What are the shifts like?

And generally how is your day in work??

PM me if you don't want to post here. Thanks.

Disclaimer not a driver, just answering some of your questions.

There are multiple depots across the country , Each depot would have different routes and services that they cover.

Dublin Heuston – Connolly – Fairview DART
    Portlaoise
    Cork
    Limerick
    Tralee
    Waterford
    Galway
    Athlone
    Westport
    Ballina
    Longford
    Sligo
    Drogheda

DART Drivers only drive the DART and are based at Fairview. Other depots would have a mix of Intercity / Commuter / Freight work but this will vary greatly depending on the depot and route / traction knowledge of each driver.

There are diesel drivers also based in DUNDALK & ROSSLARE

The DART system has about 30/40 drivers based in BRAY

There are currently no diesel drivers in BRAY

It was on an internal CIE memo.

Are there depots in wicklow and wexford? Or is the depot in rosslare only?

The Rosslare line is covered by CONNOLLY DRIVERS - it used to be CONN 2 [as opposed to CONN 1, which covered the Northern line], but I think the sheds may now be merged.

There are still, at least, 2 Rosslare based drivers, who I think, are relieved from Waterford.
There may have been driver losses at Rosslare when the S. Wexford line closed.

    Are you a CIE employee?

I know the last time mainline drivers were advertised there was a very large number of applications from the bus companies never mind internal IE applicants.

I'm with DB at the moment. The cie memos with job information get sent to all depots across the company. The rail Drivers thing was attached in with the memo for the inter depot soccer tournament 😂

I think a lot of people never even notice these notices.

Of course I need to see if jumping from DB to IR would be worth it to me. I have over a decade of service. Starting over again, trying to figure out the pros and cons.
