two week trial starting the week help

    Hi guys posted recently in accounting forum but not much help there so excuse me , anyways I have a two week trial starting Monday for a bookkeeping position , any tips or advice on how to get a permanent position it's a small family run business

    Be on time, always. Dress smart casual. Leave at a reasonable time.
    Work hard, enjoy it, smile, be practical and reasonably flexible. Ask questions if you don't know especially in relation to how the business works. Don't spend time on internet except work related. Ditto mobile phone.

    Thank you , my friend told me at the end of the week I should bring in muffins or donuts for lunch to share with the other staff

    Yes that goes down well. I always felt it was a bit unfair on the new person to have to provide. But there you go

    Thanks bmpc , This is my first proper role ever and I hope to be kept on should I offer to stay late or help clean up the office I know they dorm have a cleaner themselves or will that have me seen as a doormat

    That's a difficult one. You want to help but you don't want to be taken as a doormat. My advice is to tidy up your own desk and the area around it but not the whole office. It would be preferable to offer help in other areas of the job.

    You could stay, a little, late. Tomorrow you will get a better feel for things and then use your own judgement.
