Ideal backpack for laptop for travel

    Hi,

I've got tot take a laptop with me on travel. However, I've never travelled with a laptop before - thankfully most of my trips have been for pleasure and not business.

So, now I need to regularly travel abroad on a weekly basis for a period of time and I want to bring a laptop with me.

I was initially looking at backpack type bags, but from what I've been reading online it would seem that this type of pack requires the laptop to be removed at security for scanning. However, there are other types of packs that are 'scanner friendly' meaning that I can just put the pack through the scanner with the laptop still inside.

According to the TSA website Butterfly and trifold bags are scanner friendly. I was looking at the following but it seems a bit big for my needs.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wenger-600631-Backpack-friendly-stabalising/dp/B002V9R1NM/ref=sr_1_2?s=luggage&ie=UTF8&qid=1462617229&sr=1-2&keywords=laptop+backpack

What are the best type of bags to use for laptops when travelling? Budget probably €75.

    Many thanks.

I've researched this a lot and two great brands are:
    - Osprey
    - Everki

    I've travelled a lot with a laptop.

I've never yet met a security screening that was happy with anything other than laptop out of its case and placed in a separate container. No matter what fancy features anyone's backpack has.

Osprey Farpoint 40...It will double up as a small rucksack that will comply with Baggage Cabin size guidlines on budget airlines...Expensive though..

Thanks for the advice. I'm just looking for something small and neat. I've alredy got quite a few back packs - though none are really ideal for a laptop. I think for backpack type things, I prefer the one linked to the Osprey bag. I've got a similar one already for cycling and it is great, but not what I require for carrying a laptop.

*Sorry, I've just realised the title of my thread. I'm looking for all options.

Any recommendations for a none back pack style that is secure and not cumbersome either?

Thanks and apologies for the confusion.

    Have a look at this

    https://cabinmax.com/carry-on/200-equator-backpackers-carry-on-0702679485095.html#/73-color-black_grey

Carry on size, loads of useful pockets and a convenient padded pocket for a laptop. Nice price too.

No matter what they advertise - in European airports all laptops need to be taken out of the bag.

Simple as that no matter what fancy backpack it's in

Agreed, I have a Swissgear laptop backpack and it zips open, as you called it, "butterfly" style. I still had to take the laptop out at all airports I've been to.

I have a CaseLogic back back, have had it for years, it's on it's third laptop :p

As stated above you are going to have to take the machine out regardless of how scanner friendly the bag is.

What I would advise you is to get a bag that has a laptop pocket as a separate area with a zip on the out side. That way you'll be able to remove and return the laptop with minimal fuss.

I use a swissgear one. The best bet is one that is easy to get the laptop out of.

TK Max usually have a good selection.

I travel a lot for work over the years and the €15 laptop backpack I got in Aldi did just fine.

They are on special again this week I think.
