    Have you taxed it yet?

No, i haven't the log book yet. Just checked the reg on motortax.ie because I thought maybe the reg plate was wrong.

You won't get the logbook till you tax it.

Just use the last 6 digits of the chassis number as your motortax PIN. Chassis number is usually visible near the wipers under the windscreen.

Will that work even if the car hasn't updated to my name?

It's usually possible to tax the next day.
The logbook isn't generated until after you tax it online anyway, only then will it appear in the likes of cartell, Motorcheck, micksgarage etc.

Trying to sort this for a car I brought in on Wednesday 5th.

I can't get an local appointment until the 21st, so I booked a place an hour further away to get it on the 16th.

Is this normal, I thought I had only 5 working days to get it VRT'd

It's fine once you have booked in.

They are more interested in revenue loss as if you were to drive around for months/years.

You have 30 days to complete the VRT process.

Cheers, I'll put a copy of the booking into the glovebox.
Its been a while since I've vrted one, process seems a little different now.

I vrt'd a Yaris before Christmas, and it showed up on the tax system as a diesel Avensis!

I bought car a few weeks ago, went to complete registration at local office last weekend and they stated they are missing a statistical code, even though when I check ROS VRT there's a code there for the car in question
Have called NCT VRT all week and they keep telling me its with Revenue and could take up to 10 days - anyone experience this ... it's VHX Insignia. Have a 2year old car sitting outside that I can't insure.

I say if you rang your insurance company explaining everything, email through the documents if necessary, they'd have no problem covering you on the yellow plates for a couple of weeks.

Insurance company stating they can only transfer the insurance from one car to another for the period so might need to look into that as an option - just frustrating waiting on a''code'' to pay them a few grand :-)

The NCT have a database they access and enter the car's VIN to get a VRT figure (similar to the VRT calculator). If the car is not on their database system then they need to refer it to Revenue. It can take Revenue some time to come back with a figure as they have to contact the car manufacturer for data on your car.

Wow - just as I emailed the query I got the confirmation through but a bit shocked with the increase in VRT though ... expected it to be around €2.8k but now just over the €3k -- typical.

By the way thanks for the replies - all in all still saved around €1.8k - €2k on a 141 VHX Insiginia 2.0
