    Hi all

Garmin 500 stuck on Locating Satellites. Had a look at the Garmin Support Page and did as they said to locate a satelite as the satellite data may have been corrupt, but this didn't work.

Anyone else have such an issue and how was it resolved?

    Thx

Is it a new Garmin? It creates a dataset of known satellites when it first gets a lock that speeds up subsequent acquisitions, have you tried leaving it outside on a table for an hour? or do a factory reset and then leave it outside til it gets a lock?

She's just about 4 years old. Never had a problem. Outside the last 20 mins. Ill see how that goes if if no good than a factory reset. Thanks.

I had a garmin a few years back and it stopped locating satellites. Turned out that the antenna was faulty - corroded badly. As it was out of warranty, rather than paying €60 to have it repaired I stuck a length of wire into the external antenna socket and it's still working. Looks totally stupid tho :o

Did you contact Garmin? I had a 3 year old 305 they replaced when it started to act up.

    Have you tried the following?
    1. To perform an AutoLocate:
    2. Ensure the device is powered off
    3. Press and hold Lap and Start
    4. Press Power
    5. Release Lap and Start when the Garmin screen appears
    6. Leave the device outside with a clear view of the sky for a minimum of twenty minutes
    7. Edge 500 will now have current satellite data, providing a good satellite lock. This will decrease the chance of inaccuracies in distance or speed.

It is worth noting as well that if your starting point differs from "the usual" by some distance, ala a trip to the UK or something, it is worth doing the above.
