So tempted to test a few cattle that have poor star rating because no sire! What does the genomic testing do/prove ? Is it used to give star rating ?

Well the theory is that a few chaps that wouldn't know the difference between lap dancing and strip grazing will be able to read the dna sequence of cows and bulls and pick out the markers for various traits in cows be it docility, fertility, or milk yield and tell you what bull to mate to what cow, thereby producing the holy grail of suckling, but they keep changing their fukking minds.

The slightly worrying thing is that it's not clear what DNA signature is being used as the base. Have they just picked animals to create a base that reinforces what they want the result to be. Are they being compared to international results or do we think Irish cows are genetically unique. The mad swings so far doesn't inspire confidence.

On a happier note for me one of my cows that was tested had wrong sire and ended up at 0 has now gone up to 140 in the May proofs.
