I just find this really strange so just wanted to check to see if anyone has any info. We are looking to get a new bed and are going to splash out on something really good. We look the like of a couple of King Koil beds in Harvey Norman
    http://www.harveynorman.ie/bedroom/beds/bed-sets-divans/?subcats=Y&features_hash=V5467&sort_by=price&sort_order=desc

The strange thing is that beds such as the Millennium or Millennium Deluxe don;t seem to exist anywhere else other than Harvey Norman. They don;t even appear on the King Koil website. Conversely, nothing that appears on the KK website is on sale in Harvey Normans.

Anyone know anything about this?

It says on the HN website that they are "exclusive to Harvey Norman" so presumably they have commissioned these beds from King Koil and no others.

Yeah, cheers. Seems strange that KK would do this but I guess they are looking to sell a shedload this way. On the other hand, if someone if thinking of getting a KK and went to their website, they'd have to go somewhere else other than Harvey Norman!

I did a bit of searching just to compare and a furniture shop in Navan has the top bed on the KK website (Grand Elegance) and it is substantially cheaper than the 'top' ones in Harvey Normans. Worth a look I guess to compare.

I know for a fact Kingsbury Furniture in Tallaght sell King Koil beds because I was looking at them about two weeks ago.
They have a really fantastic one called "Austin" and several others.

    Cheers for that.

We actually took a drive out to Navan yesterday. Beechmount had the proper (models from the KK website) on display and we got sorted there. I just didn't like the idea of buying an 'exclusive' version from Harvey Norman...

own branding has been going on in the furniture and bedding industry for many years. Its not like selling cornflakes or tea - exclusive deals are often offered along with a bespoke brand / label / design to the larger buyer. Not that fair on the independent outlet and it has always surprised me how the manufacturers get away with it.

I was up there yesterday, didnt notice the Austin but did try out the King Koil Spinal Guard. Think I will go for it. Does the normal King Koil warranty apply even if you dont buy direct from them? Presume it does.

I don't know. All I know is that Kingsbury guaranteed the bed for 10 years.

Ill go back up for a chat with them later in the week. Great to find a good quality firm mattress locally. I just want to check that the warranty exists even if Kingsbury go bust.

My previous mattress was a Respa Visco Bonner 700 and it only lasted 7 years before one side completely collapsed. I admit I had not been rotating it but I was disappointed with only 7 years.

Not a bad idea re: possibility of Kingsbury going bust.
Think I'll contact King Koil too.

Yeah, they're a great little shop; they have all sorts of quirky beautiful things you wouldn't see anywhere else and I think Peggy is really nice and helpful.

Paranoid individual that I am I will be paying by credit card so that I have comeback in case they go bust before delivery AND checking that the warranty exists with KK if Kingsbury go bust in the next 10 years. You can tell Ive been stung before eh?

Agreed - very nice. Whats the story on parking up there though - I parked sort of to the side of Smyths but couldnt figure out if I needed to pay and display or not?

You can park outside Smyths front for 30 mins free if Im not mistaken. Everywhere else, including alongside Kingsbury is pay and display.
Good idea about the credit card.

Incidentally I rang Kaymed who look after King Koil and she said they would honour the guarantee if Kingsbury went bust once you retain the receipt.

Just on the exclusive to the particular retailer. We bought a respa recently and the shop that we bought it in guaranteed us they were the cheapest for that mattress. This gave us extra confidence in the deal we were getting.

They could promise us this as no where else sold that particular mattress. Found very very similar mattress 20% cheaper on respa site but had no comeback as it was ever so slightly different.

When I last bought a mattress about 8 years ago I went around a large number of shops. Rarely did I find the same mattress in two different shops, in fact I think I did not at all. Apparently, mattress manufacturers provide very similar mattresses with slight variations and different names to different outlets making it impossible to make a proper comparison.

A lot of the time the top selling beds are re-named for different stores. Certain beds will be exclusive, this exclusiveness could be something small like the fabric the mattress is covered in or the materials the base & headboard is available in.
