    Hi All,

Anyone interested in viewing this car should beware:

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/06-vw-golf-gti-fsh-nct-250-bhp/12231099

It's reported as a Category C Damaged car and it also has mileage discrepancies, it was recorded at 150,000km last year and it's at 109,000km now.

    06ky3245
    06-ky-3245
    2006 Blue Golf GTI

Seller was asking for cash and he also told me he got a check done when buying it and it came up clear, blatantly lying.

I can forward the cartell report to anyone interested.

The only reason there's a market for these cars is people are unwilling to spend €15 to run a history check, the mind boggles.

I think having a thread here dedicated to history checks would be a good idea. Would that be ok with the mods I wonder?

If people aren't willing to do their own history check they aren't going to start searching a website for one. As harsh as it sounds if you don't do the basic checks when buying you deserve the car you get.

The reason it is rife is that instead of providing an open database for all vehicles registered the state would rather let private companies make a killing selling that data to the public.

A lot of people, particularly those with no interest in cars are ignorant of the sorts of scams that "private sellers" are up to.

Yes they don't help themselves but the job of the authorities should be to make it as hard as possible for criminals to scam innocent punters, not shrug shoulders and tell people they should have jumped through hoops so as not to get scammed.

So the report the seller has is from November 2015....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 635 ✭✭✭BillJ

Current owner (the guy selling) bought it on 23rd Nov 2015 so it must have been crashed since he bought it, he only has it 5 months.

Donedeal put the add back up as they said mywheels.ie told them there was an error on their behalf with the mileage, so not sure what to believe there.

It should be reported to Garda
They may not do much but eventually when enough complaints they will have to act.

Reporting to DD or what ever isn't solving anything it can be relisted or advertis elsewhere in mins

Mileage is now updated on the ad to reflect the correct mileage, so its not clocked it was just advertised with the wrong mileage initally

So, has it still been in an accident according to any recent cartell / mywheel reports? Looking at the report pictured in the ad, it looks all clear but that was dated November 2015. Still very misguiding if that is the case.

I had looked at this car last week as I am on the look out for something similar, preferably with DSG.

Yes if you look at my report on page one, that report is a lot more recent and cartell confirmed it was Cat C damaged

Some sucker not willing to bankroll a €15 history check will buy it, plenty of them around.

Performance cars and desirable cars are always prone to fixing.

I was shown an ad on done deal of a Toyota prius that I know was a ex taxi that has 500k on the clock and was advertised with 130k miles!!! It's seats were covered when used as a taxi so it looked in good condition.
I reported it and mailed the seller
